The Nord Alley of the future! The Green Alley Competition asks designers to imagine the Nord Alley using sustainable, green energy with a focus on an inviting, people-friendly atmosphere.

Public Space | Public Life for Seattle's South Downtown

Scan|Design Master Studio, University of Washington, and GFL teamed up on the Public Space | Public Life study with the International Sustainability Institute, Gehl Architects, and the City of Seattle. Students in the studio worked on concepts of what Seattle's alleys could look like.

Free showings of Tour de France in Nord Alley - Jen Kelly - Pioneer Square PI

SEATTLE -- Everyone loves the World Cup, especially when it leads to a long lunch.

Looking around the crowd at the daily public World Cup showings in the “World Cup Alley,” there aren’t many jerseys for the respective teams. Instead, the collared shirts and name badges donned by the spectators make it clear a sizable segment of the Pioneer Square workforce has embraced the Alley as part of its daily ritual. ( more...)

Emerging Professionals Travel Scholarship Award Winner

Tacoma Goodwill's garden wall is a new city icon - Valerie Easton - Seattle Times

A new vertical garden at the Goodwill-Milgard Work opportunity Center in Tacoma features about 100 different varieties of plants installed between layers of felt and nourished by water. The garden wall, which measures 20 by 40 feet, is "a new iconic image" for the city, says Matthew Erlich of Tacoma Goodwill. ( more...)
